Project scope consists of roadway, curb and gutter replacement sidewalk repairs, new storm sewer, new water main and parkway restoration. The project improvements include:

Project Complete

This past week the pavement marking sub-contractor performed the pavement markings along Colfax Avenue. DiMeo Brothers have also been on-site completing some of the minor repairs indicated on the punch list.  

Next week, the landscape sub-contractor is scheduled to be on-site to complete the landscape restorations along Colfax Avenue.  The general contractor is anticipating all punch list items will be completed next week.
The major construction items along the entire project site are completed with only a few minor items remaining. This will be the last blog post for this project. We hope you enjoyed reading the blogs and found the information useful and informative.

We would like to express our gratitude one last time for all of your patience dealing with the inconveniences of construction along your streets and within your neighborhood.

Asphalt Surface Paving to be Completed

This past week the paving sub-contractor, Peter Baker & Sons, performed the pavement milling of Colfax Avenue from Waukegan Road to Harlem Avenue. The paving contractor also swept the existing asphalt surfaces and installed the asphalt prime or tack coat on all the roadways in preparation for asphalt surface paving. DiMeo Brothers was on-site during the week performing some miscellaneous repair work identified during the final walk-through.

Asphalt surface paving of Nora Avenue, Neva Avenue, and Colfax Avenue is scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 19th, depending on weather conditions. Parking will not be allowed on any of the roadways scheduled to be paved on the day of paving. Traffic along Colfax Avenue will be allowed, but will be congested during the paving operations and we suggest alternates are utilized. Access to homes south of Colfax Avenue from Waukegan Road to Harlem Avenue will be maintained throughout the process. We ask for your cooperation during the paving process and request you minimize, to the greatest extent possible, the number of trips within the construction area.
Additional information regarding parking restrictions and access will be provided to residents in the area. 

The landscape sub-contractor is also scheduled to be on-site next week to complete the remaining sod restoration along Colfax Avenue.

The pavement markings alolng Colfax Avenue are also scheduled to be compelted next week.
The long construction season you have all endured is nearing its completion with the paving of the asphalt surface. We request your cooperation during these final stages of construction.

Asphalt Milling to be Performed this Week

This past week the contractor performed roadway excavation, aggregate base installation, and asphalt binder paving along Colfax Avenue within the Nora Avenue and Neva Avenue intersections. The contractor also performed some miscellaneous repairs and site clean-up. The Village staff also performed a final walk-through of the project to identify any additional repairs that need to be made prior project completion.

Next Tuesday, October 15th, the paving sub-contractor is scheduled to mill the existing pavement surface along Colfax Avenue from Waukegan Road to Harlem Avenue. The landscaping sub-contractor is also anticipated to be in next week to perform the remaining sod restorations along Colfax Avenue.
The asphalt surface paving along all roadways is scheduled to be performed the week of October 21st.

During milling and paving operations, we ask for your cooperation in not parking on the street and minimizing the amount of travel in the area.
We continue to express our gratitude during the on-going construction. The completion of the asphalt surface paving in the next few weeks will mark a significant milestone in the overall completion of the project.

Traffic Calming Islands Installed

This past week the contractor installed the concrete traffic calming medians and sidewalk ramps at the intersections of Nora Avenue and Nottingham Avenue.

Next week, the contractor is anticipated to complete the roadway excavation and asphalt binder layer at the intersections of Colfax Avenue at Nora Avenue and Neva Avenue.
Following the asphalt binder at Nora Avenue and Neva Avenue, the contractor will mill the existing asphalt surface along Colfax Avenue from Waukegan Road to Harlem Road. The final asphalt surface layer along Colfax Avenue, Nora Avenue, and Neva Avenue will be installed at the same time once all other work is completed.

Traffic Calming Islands along Colfax Avenue to be completed this week.

This past week the contractor completed the concrete curb & gutter removal and replacement along Colfax Avenue between Waukegan Road and Harlem Avenue. The contractor also performed the concrete base course in front of the curb replacements and at the Nottingham Avenue intersection where the roadway is to be widened.   

Next week, the contractor will begin removing the pavement in the center of Colfax Avenue at Nora Avenue and Nottingham Avenue in preparation for constructing the traffic calming islands.
During the Colfax Avenue Improvements, there will be no parking allowed on the roadway. The posted 8 AM to 10 PM No Parking Restrictions will remain in effect. It is  requested all cars parked along Colfax Avenue be moved prior to 7:00 AM each weekday and 9:00 AM on Saturdays.

The final asphalt pavement surface layer will not be installed along Nora Avenue and Neva Avenue until the Colfax Avenue improvements are completed.

Concrete Curb & Gutter Replacement along Colfax Avenue

This past week the contractor removed the concrete curb & gutter along Colfax Avenue scheduled to be replaced. The contractor also set the forms and installed aggregate base below the proposed concrete curb & gutter. Due to the weather conditions, the concrete could not be installed. The concrete is scheduled to be poured on Saturday, September 20th, starting at 8:00 AM.   

Next week, the contractor will begin construction of the traffic calming islands at the Nora Avenue and Nottingham Avenue intersections.
During the Colfax Avenue Improvements, there will be no parking allowed on the roadway. The posted 8 AM to 10 PM No Parking Restrictions will remain in effect. It is  requested all cars parked along Colfax Avenue be moved prior to 7:00 AM each weekday and 9:00 AM on Saturdays.

Colfax Avenue Improvements to Begin

This past week the contractor continued to water the sod along the project site. The contractor also began saw-cutting for the Colfax Avenue Improvements.

The contractor is anticipated to begin the concrete curb & gutter removals along Colfax Avenue on Monday, September 16th. Those residents with concrete curb & gutter repairs adjacent to their driveways will need to have their vehicles moved from garages and driveways prior to the curb & gutter being removed. The contractor will knock on each effected residents door prior to removing the curb & gutter to ensure all vehicles are moved.
During the Colfax Avenue Improvements, there will be no parking allowed on the roadway. The posted 8 AM to 10 PM No Parking Restrictions will remain in effect. It is  requested all cars parked along Colfax Avenue be moved prior to 7:00 AM each weekday and 9:00 AM on Saturdays.

The work along Colfax Avenue will include concrete curb & gutter repairs, construction of traffic calming islands at Nora Avenue and Nottingham Avenue, and asphalt resurfacing from Waukegan Road to Harlem Avenue.

Sod Restoration Completed

This past week the contractor performed landscape grading and sod installation along the project site.
We have met with the contractor to discuss the proposed traffic calming islands along Colfax Avenue at the intersections of Nora Avenue and Nottingham Avenue.

The final asphalt pavement surface layer will not be installed until all landscape restorations are completed and Colfax Avenue is ready for asphalt pavement.

Improvements on Colfax Avenue Being Finalized

This past week the contractor performed landscape grading along the project site.
On Wednesday, August 28th, a resident meeting was conducted to discuss possible traffic calming islands and pavement markings along Colfax Avenue at the Nora Avenue and Nottingham Avenue intersections. As a result of that meeting, the Village is moving forward with the construction of the proposed traffic calming measures.
The work along Colfax Avenue will also include concrete curb & gutter repairs and resurfacing from Harlem Avenue to Waukegan Road. The Colfax Avenue improvements are anticipated to begin in the near future once final plans are prepared and negotiations with the contractor are completed.
Depending on the weather conditions, the contractor may begin installing sod. Otherwise, the contractor will wait until the weather is cooler for more favorable growing conditions.
The final asphalt pavement surface layer will not be installed until all landscape restorations are completed and Colfax Avenue is ready for asphalt pavement.

Asphalt Binder Completed

This past week the contractor fine graded the aggregate base materials, repaired unsuitable area of base materials, and paved the asphalt binder layer along Nora Avenue and Neva Avenue north of Colfax Avenue. The contractor also began landscape grading and topsoil installation in the parkways.
Next week the contractor anticipates to continue to perform landscape grading and installation of topsoil along the project site. The contractor is not scheduled to install sod until after the Labor Day weekend. Sod is typically installed after Labor Day weekend due to more favorable growing conditions.
The work along Colfax Avenue is currently on hold until a decision regarding traffic calming measures can be resolved.  Once the final decision is reached and design of improvements is completed, the contractor will perform concrete curb & gutter replacements, pavement surface removal, and asphalt paving along Colfax Avenue.
The final asphalt pavement surface layer will not be installed until all landscape restorations are completed and Colfax Avenue is ready for asphalt pavement.
We appreciate all of your patience during the inconvenience of construction along your roadway including restricted access to your driveways, dust and dirt during construction, and various parking restrictions and detours. All driveways are now restored and residents should have unrestricted access until the day of asphalt surface paving. Now that the binder layer of asphalt pavement has been installed, the amount of dust is greatly reduced.

Concrete Curb & Gutter, Driveways, and Sidewalk Completed North of Colfax

This past week the contractor installed concrete curb & gutter and concrete driveways along Nora Avenue and Neva Avenue north of Colfax Avenue. The contractor also performed some landscape grading behind the curb & gutter.
Next week the contractor will complete the concrete sidewalk installation, perform fine grading of the aggregate base, landscape grading, and begin installing sod along the project site. The contractor is currently scheduled to pave the asphalt binder layer on Wednesday, August 21st along Nora and Neva north of Colfax. Once the binder is installed, they will finish the asphalt driveway aprons and residents will be able to access their driveways.

Roadway Reconstruction North of Colfax On-Going

This past week the contractor performed roadway reconstruction along Nora Avenue and Neva Avenue north of Colfax Avenue and through the Colfax Avenue intersections. Work completed included removing existing driveways and sidewalks, removing the existing concrete pavement, excavating the existing ground, performing base repairs as needed, and installing aggregate base course.
Next week the contractor will perform the concrete work along Nora and Neva north of Colfax Avenue. The work will include concrete curb & gutter, concrete driveways, and concrete sidewalk. The contractor will also likely begin fine grading the roadway in preparation for asphalt paving the week of August 19th.
Starting on Monday, August 12th, all cars will need to be removed from driveways as the contractor begins installing string line and preparing for the concrete work. It is anticipated you will be able to access your driveways within 7 to 10 days, depending on work progress and weather conditions.

Curb & Gutter Completed. Asphalt Paving Next Week

This past week the contractor performed roadway reconstruction along Nora Avenue and Neva Avenue south of Colfax Avenue. The contractor completed roadway excavation, installation of new aggregate base course, and concrete curb & gutter.
Next week the contractor will complete the concrete driveway and sidewalk replacements, grading behind the new concrete curb & gutter, and fine grading of the aggregate material. Asphalt paving of Nora Avenue and Neva Avenue south of Colfax Avenue is scheduled mid to late next week depending on weather and scheduling conflicts.
The contractor is anticipating to work on Saturday, June 27th, starting at 9:00 AM, to perform landscape grading behind the installed concrete curb & gutter.
The contractor anticipates to begin roadway reconstruction on Nora and Neva Avenue north of Colfax Avenue the week of August 5th.

Roadway Reconstruction has Started

This past week the contractor completed the underground utility improvements along the project site. The work included making the connections between the existing and new water mains along Neva Avenue at Harrison Street and Colfax Avenue, removing and abandoning the existing fire hydrants, water valves, storm sewers, storm manholes, and other miscellaneous tasks. The contractor also started removing the driveways, sidewalk, and remaining concrete pavement along Nora Avenue south of Colfax Avenue.
The roadway reconstruction process will continue throughout next week and the next several weeks. The contractor anticipates to perform the work in the following order: Nora Avenue south of Colfax Avenue, Neva Avenue south of Colfax Avenue, Nora Avenue north of Colfax Avenue, and Neva Avenue north of Colfax Avenue. The work will consist of the contractor removing the existing driveways, sidewalks scheduled to be replaced, remaining concrete pavement, and materials below the concrete pavement. The contractor will perform sub-grade repairs as needed and install new aggregate base course prior to the new concrete curb & gutter and asphalt pavement being installed.
Next week the contractor anticipates to complete the roadway excavation process along Nora Avenue south of Colfax Avenue and begin concrete curb & gutter, driveway, and sidewalk replacement. The contractor will also begin roadway excavation along Neva Avenue south of Colfax Avenue.

Roadway Reconstruction to Begin Next Week.

This past week the contractor completed the installation of the storm sewer, storm sewer services, and water services along Neva Avenue. All of the water services throughout the entire project have been transferred to the new water main. All the storm sewer mainline and storm sewer services are also completed throughout the entire project.
On Monday, July 15th, the contractor will be making the connections between the new and existing water mains along Neva Avenue and Harrison Street and Colfax Avenue. Due to the layout of the new and existing water mains, there will be limited disruptions to water service. Residents whose water will be shut off will be notified 24-hours in advance. During the connection to the existing water main along Colfax Avenue, a detour will be set-up around the Neva Avenue and Colfax Avenue intersection.  Traffic will be diverted to Harrison Street between Nordica Avenue and Harlem Avenue. Please utilize this detour while work is on-going. Access will be allowed to Neva Avenue south of Colfax Avenue, but might be delayed due to the construction operations.
The contractor is also anticipating to perform some miscellaneous underground utility work next week. It is anticipated that all underground utility work will be completed by the middle to end of next week.  Thank you all for your patience during this process.
The next step will be to perform the roadway reconstruction along the project. We are anticipating this work to begin mid to late next week. Residents have been notified regarding the construction process and directions for parking and driveway usage during the construction operations. The contractor will begin on Nora Avenue, south of Colfax Avenue. Once completed there, the contractor will move to Neva Avenue, south of Colfax.  Once the work south of Colfax is completed, the work north of Colfax Avenue will begin.

Storm Sewer Nearing Completion on Neva Avenue

This past week the contractor continued to install storm sewer mainline, storm sewer services, and water services along Neva Avenue north of Colfax Avenue. The contractor also completed installing the internal epoxy liner within the sanitary sewer manholes located in the rear easements.
This week the contractor will likely complete the installation of storm sewer mainline, storm sewer services, and water services along Neva Avenue north of Colfax Avenue. The contractor will then work on the water main connections between the new and existing systems. The underground work should be completed within the next two weeks. Following the underground utility construction, the contractor will begin the roadway reconstruction process.
The connections to the existing water main will require the water to be shut-down for a period of time while the work is being completed. Residents will be notified 24-hours in advance of any scheduled water shut-down.

During water service installation and connection to the existing service, water to individual homes will be shut off for a short period of time. The contractor will knock on the door of any home that will not have water prior to turning it off.

Emergency Water Main Shut-Down on Neva

On Wednesday, July 3rd at 8:40 AM the existing water main was hit during the construction operations. The existing water main on Neva Avenue between Colfax and Harrison needed to shut-down to make the needed repairs.

The repair was made and all effected residents had water service by 10:00 AM.

We apologize for any inconvenience this caused.

In early posts, it was stated the contractor would be working on-site Friday, July 5th. We learned earlier today that the contractor has decided not to work on Friday, July 5th.

The contractor also perform some preparatory work in advance of installing the internal epoxy liner within the sanitary sewer manholes located in the rear easements.
Next week the contractor will likely complete the installation of storm sewer mainline, storm sewer services, and water services along Neva Avenue south of Colfax Avenue and will begin the same process along Neva Avenue going north of Colfax to Harrison Street.
Currently the contractor will not be working on Thursday, July 4th, but do plan on working on-site Friday, July 5th next week.

This past week the contractor performed some miscellaneous utility work along the project site including replacing existing manhole frames. The contractor also installed the new storm sewer along Neva Avenue through the Colfax Avenue intersection and continued installing storm sewer south of Colfax Ave along Neva Avenue.
Next week the contractor will  continue to install storm sewer mainline, storm sewer services, and water services along Neva Avenue south of Colfax Avenue.
During water service installation and connection to the existing service, water to individual homes will be shut off for a short period of time. The contractor will knock on the door of any home that will not have water prior to turning it off.
The underground utility work along Nora Avenue is now complete. Work along Nora Avenue will not commence again until the work on Neva Avenue is completed. The Village is committed to ensure the stone trenches are properly maintained until the road reconstruction work begins.

Colfax Avenue Detour, June 19-21

We apologize for the late notice. Due to scheduling conflicts, the work planned in the intersection of Neva Avenue and Colfax has been delayed for two days. The storm sewer work scheduled from June 17-19 will now take place on June 19-21.

During working hours, Colfax Avenue will be closed from Noridca Avenue to Harlem Avenue. Colfax will be open at night. Residents should plan on using Harrison Street during the day. Residents south of Colfax will be able to access Neva but there may be slight delays at times. Police and Fire Departments will be notified and will always have access to homes.

Storm Sewer to Neva Avenue to Start

This past week the contractor completed installing the new storm sewer, storm sewer services, and water services along Nora Avenue north of Colfax Avenue. The contractor also made connections between the new water main and the existing water main along Nora Avenue at Harrison Street and Colfax Avenue. The majority of the underground utility work along Nora Avenue is now completed.
On Monday, June 17th, weather dependent, the contractor will need to set up a detour route for Colfax between Harlem and Nordica during the daytime to install storm sewer and manholes in the intersection of Neva and Colfax. The detour will last 2 to 3 days during daytime work hours. Colfax will be open at night. Residents should plan on using Harrison Street during the day. Residents south of Colfax will be able to access Neva but there may be slight delays at times. Police and Fire Departments will be notified and will always have access to homes.

Next week the contractor will move to Neva Avenue and continue the same process as utilized on Nora Avenue. The Contractor will begin by installing the storm manhole at the intersection of Neva Avenue and Colfax Avenue. The contractor will install storm sewer main line, storm sewer services, and water services at the same time along Neva Avenue going south from Colfax Avenue.

Colfax Detour on Monday, May 20th

On Monday, May 20th, the contractor will be installing a storm manhole and storm sewers through the intersection of Nora Avenue and Colfax Avenue. The contractor will set-up a detour along Colfax Avenue between Harlem Avenue and Nordica Avenue. Residents should plan on using Harrison Street during working hours. Residents that live on Nora Avenue south of Colfax Avenue, will be able to access their homes, but should anticipate some delays while the work is on-going.

This past week the contractor completed installing the water main along Neva Avenue and completed testing of the new water main along Nora Avenue.
The majority of the water main for the project is completed. The items remaining include making connections to the existing water main at the intersections and water service installation. Unfortunately, these operations will include several water main shut downs in the near future. Residents will be notified 24 hours prior to any water main shut-down.
Next week the contractor will begin installing new storm sewer along Nora Avenue. The contractor is also anticipating to install new storm sewer services and water services as the new storm sewer is being installed.

Road Closure at Nora and Colfax scheduled for Friday, May 17th has been delayed.  The work will be performed on a different day.

Colfax Avenue Detour on May 10th.

On Monday, May 10th, the contractor will be installing the new water main through the intersection of Neva Avenue and Colfax Avenue. The contractor will set-up a detour along Colfax Avenue between Harlem Avenue and Nordica Avenue. Residents should plan on using Harrison Street during working hours. Residents that live on Neva Avenue south of Colfax Avenue, will be able to access their homes, but should anticipate some delays while the work is on-going.

This past week the contractor completed installing the water main along Nora Avenue and started installing water main along Neva Avenue.
Next week the contractor will continue to install water main along Neva Avenue north to Harrison Street. The contractor will also perform the required testing on the newly installed water main along Nora Avenue.

Neva Avenue Water Shut Down

The Contractor is completing the water main installation on Nora and will be starting the water main installation on Neva at the south end by Kraft tomorrow, Thursday May 8. The contractor will need to do a water main shut down for the following section :

Areas Affected: Neva Avenue from Colfax Avenue to southerly limits of roadway
Day: Thursday, May 9, 2013
Start Time: 9:00 AM
Duration: 6-8 Hours

All affected residents will receive a door hanger on Wednesday, May 9th with further information and details.

Colfax Detour on Monday May 6th.


On Monday, May 6th, the contractor will be installing the new water main through the intersection of Nora Avenue and Colfax Avenue. DiMeo Brothers, the contractor for the project, is planning on performing a water main shut down as follows:

Day: Tuesday, April 30, 2013
Start Time: 9:00 AM
Duration: 6-8 Hours

All affected residents will receive a door hanger on Monday, April 29th with further information and details.

Work is Starting

The general contractor, Dimeo Bros. Inc., will continue mobilizing next week and will begin construction. Next week contractor will begin water main installation on Nora Avenue.
